Hempstead House was originally built by Robert Lake in 1850 and it was as a result of a close association between the current owners and an original descendant of the Lake family that the restaurant derived its name. Although it is a newly constructed extension to the original building, it is built in classical style and original portraits of the Lake family adorn the walls, creating a genuine feeling of history. The memory of the Lake family lives on and that history is depicted in the album which is available for all to read in our Snug Room
